China's new generation of artificial intelligence development report 2020, released at the outcome conference of the 2020 Pujiang innovation forum, showed that in 2019, China published 28700 papers on artificial intelligence, an increase of 12.4% over the previous year, and the activity and influence of China's top international conferences in the field of artificial intelligence have been continuously improved. Over the same period, China's artificial intelligence patent applications exceeded 30000, an increase of 52.4% over the previous year.

1. The report points out that among the 100 highly cited papers on artificial intelligence in the past five years, China's output accounted for 21, ranking second. In the fields of automatic machine learning, neural network interpretable methods, heterogeneous fusion brain computing and other fields, China has emerged a number of innovative achievements with international influence.

From the national point of view, Beijing, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Hubei and other places are the most active in the publication of artificial intelligence papers in 2019, and become the important source of domestic artificial intelligence academic innovation. Guangdong, Beijing, Jiangsu and Shanghai lead the country in the number of patent applications, and Guangdong, Jiangsu, Beijing and Zhejiang are the most active regions for AI patent transfer.

3. In addition, Beijing Tianjin Hebei, Yangtze River Delta and Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay area have become the three regional engines for the development of artificial intelligence in China. The total number of artificial intelligence enterprises accounts for 83% of the whole country. The Chengdu Chongqing urban agglomeration and the middle reaches of the Yangtze River urban agglomeration also show the regional vitality of artificial intelligence development, and the industrial agglomeration areas are beginning to show regional guidance and synergy.

In addition, China's artificial intelligence discipline and specialty construction will continue to advance in 2019, 180 universities will be approved to add new artificial intelligence undergraduate majors in 2019, and 11 universities, including Peking University, have newly established artificial intelligence colleges or research institutes.
